Earthkind Lanscape School Success

The Texas Agrilife Extension Service in Leon County hosted its annual Home Landscape School on January 31, 2009. The Keynote speaker this year was Texas AgriLife Extension landscape horticultural specialist Dr. Steven George. Each year the program has grown and this year was no exception with over 75 people in attendance. The program was held at the Centerville High School Cafeteria. This years event, marked the 4th year of the program. Dr. George discussed topics including landscape bed layout and prep, plant placement, general design principles and, his foremost interest, EarthKind gardening and landscaping principles. Dr. George is a charismatic, engaging speaker who fits a lot of useful information into just a few hours. The project goal was to use the class information to sketch a landscape plan and then review the plan during the event. The class was a great, time-effective way to learn solid landscape-design basics and get a plan going. Door prizes for this event were provided by Cattle Country, Kountry Produce and Plants, Davis Country Store, Larry Lynch Construction, Woodson Lumber, Sun Mart, The Horse's Mouth, NAPA Auto Parts, Robinson Home and Auto, Buffalo Flower Basket, Tiger Mart, Brookshire Brothers, Gilliam's Grocery, Heart and Home, Centerville Building Supply, Centerville Feed, Western Auto, Davis Feed, Country Memories, Bo's Bo's Nursery, Marquez Farm and Ranch, Cattle Country Jewett, Huebner Christmas Tree Farms, A&A Feed and Glick Auto.
